Scouting Project information

Technology Scouting at Findest

At Findest, we offer a technology scouting service to identify technologies using our in-house developed search engine IGOR^AI.
Within our service, you will meet our Technology Scouts, who will help you scope your technical challenge, and acquire technical solutions using IGOR^AI. You can find our team here (Link to webpage with the team)

IGOR^AI

IGOR^AI identifies various, potential technologies by reading and analysing the text of millions of scientific publications, patents and websites. The Findest Technology Scouts will read the text selected by IGOR^AI, and make an assessment as to whether the technologies are relevant for your challenge.

Each  phase of the Technology Scouting service is made of three steps:

  1. Intake: You will meet our Technology Scout at the intake meeting, to discuss and define the scope of your challenge.
  2. Scouting Phase: Thereafter, using the information from the intake meeting, our Technology Scout will use IGOR^AI, and make a delivery report with the possible solutions.
  3. Results Discussion: Our Technology Scouts will send the delivery report, and meet you in a Results meeting to discuss the solutions.

Technology Overview and Technology Intelligence

Prior to the Intake Meeting, it will be decided whether your challenge is suited for a Technology Overview or Technology Intelligence scouting phase.
A Technology Overview phase will provide a summary of all the (new) technologies relevant for your project. These technologies will contain a short description, findings relevant toyour case, and examples of suppliers.
A Technology Intelligence phase will provide technical information on existing technologies. This may include specific requirements, suppliers and/or the Technology Readiness level.
For one scouting phase, a Technology Overview or Technology Intelligence is performed.

Overall, Findest can help you in any stage of your innovation process. Typically, (innovation) challenges may be divided into three stages, as shown above:

  • Stage 1: This may be at the very start of an innovation process, when the challenge is abstract, and you need to formulate several solutions on how to solve a certain problem.
  • Stage 2: Here, you may already be familiar with the different solutions, and the scouting phase will be concentrate on one of these, with a focused topic (e.g. find materials).
  • Stage 3: At this point, you are already set on how you wish to solve your challenge, and would like to find in-depth information on implementing a particular solution.

Findest will set a project scope which best fits your needs. The main difference between stage 1 and 3 challenges is the level of depth and information extracted per scouting phase; stage 1 will deliver a broader level of information, whereas stage 3 will deliver specific and detailed information.

  • Stage 1 – High-level abstraction with short overview of each technology (electrochemical, thermal, mechanical, electrical etc.)
  • Stage 2 – Short description and highlights on a selected, abstract solution. For example, for electrochemical systems, information on batteries, capacitors and fuel cells is provided.
  • Stage 3 – In-depth information on how to implement, for example, lithium-ion batteries, including a range of suppliers, technical requirements and/or applications.

Example case of innovation process
Assume you are facing an innovation challenge, wherein you wish to find energy storage technologies. An example of the level/depth of information extracted at each stage is as follows:

IGOR^AI Database

As mentioned above, our literature database spans three main areas:

  • Scientific Research (Journals, University thesis, conference proceedings)
  • Patents (Applications filed and granted, such as EU and US)
  • Webpages (Corporate websites, news articles, blog pages)

When providing description and highlights for each technology, information is majorly extracted from the abstract text of the (analysed) document, with links to the full documentation.
However, please note that the files and full text of so-called ‘paywall’ articles are not provided by Findest.
